GovBot Tides, Elevation & Watersheds
Read-only access to coastal and Great Lakes water levels, ground elevation and watersheds from the agencies that publish them: NOAA tide and water level stations near a location, observed water levels and astronomical tide predictions for a station and date range, the tidal and geodetic datums at a station, the USGS 3D Elevation Program ground elevation at a point, and the USGS hydrologic units (HUC8, HUC10 and HUC12) that contain a point. No account or sign-in is required.
Sources
- NOAA National Ocean Service, Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS): the CO-OPS Data API (water levels and tide predictions) and Metadata API (station lists and datums).
- U.S. Geological Survey Elevation Point Query Service: ground elevation from the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) digital elevation models.
- U.S. Geological Survey Watershed Boundary Dataset on The National Map: hydrologic unit boundaries from 2 to 12 digits.
Each result states the publishing agency, service, endpoint and retrieval time; water levels state the datum, units and time zone, and elevations state the units, source resolution and acquisition date. Records are read live from the agencies and held for up to ten minutes (station lists and datums up to 24 hours) to limit repeat requests.
Available operations
- Tide and water level stations near a latitude and longitude.
- Observed water levels for a station and date range (six-minute, verified hourly, or verified high and low waters).
- Astronomical tide predictions for a station and date range (high and low, hourly or six-minute).
- Tidal and geodetic datums, tidal epoch and recorded extremes at a station.
- Ground elevation at a latitude and longitude.
- Hydrologic units containing a latitude and longitude.

Scope and support
Water levels are observations or astronomical predictions at a station, not warnings or forecasts; predictions exclude wind, pressure and river effects. For current hazards and safety decisions, refer to the National Weather Service and local officials. A ground elevation is a value read from a terrain model; it is not a surveyed elevation, an elevation certificate or a determination about any property. Watershed boundaries are mapped for regional use and are not site-specific determinations. GovBot is not affiliated with or endorsed by NOAA, the U.S. Geological Survey or any government agency.
